Review of BOUND BY NIGHT MoonBound Clan Vampires #1 by Larissa Ione

NOTE: This review was originally published September 2013, but with the next book CHAINED BY NIGHT coming out the end of September 2014 I decided to repost! :)

BOUND BY NIGHT introduces us to a new paranormal realm. Vampires are the descendents of two native American tribes, the MoonBound clan and the ShadowSpawn. In this world humans enslave vampires, while the free or “wild” vampires live in secrecy, hiding from VAST—the Vampire Strike Force; hunters out to murder vampires or sell them into slavery; and their biggest enemy, Daedalus Corporation, a company that has no qualms about performing scientific experiments on captured vampires. A company that has created technology to contain vampires: removing fangs, electric collars, remote access microchips, all to make them safe for humans to use as slaves.

Riker of the MoonShadow clan hates humans, specifically the Martins. Because of them he lost his wife and child. He has been waiting to gain his revenge for years, and now is his chance. Daedalus Corporation has kidnapped Neriya, a ShadowSpawn vampire who was visiting the MoonBound. In order to stop a war, Riker needs to rescue Neriya. The easiest way to do this, he assumes, is to kidnap Daedalus Corporation's CEO, Dr. Nicole Martin.

As a child, Nicole witnessed a horrifying event convincing her that vampires are evil. Now she is face to face with her nightmare. Riker and Nicole have a shaky start with an extremely negative intertwined past they need to overcome to save the vampires.

Larissa Ione has done it again, she lured me in with the promise of a sexy new vampire series and HOOKED me! I freaking loved this book and could gush about it for a very VERY long time. I already tell everyone I know who likes paranormal romance that Larissa Ione is a MUST read author, BOUND BY NIGHT is no exception.

There is so much going on in this story as it's the set up of the series, but that doesn't take anything away from the romance of Riker and Nicole. The storyline is dark and sometimes a bit brutal, but bits of sarcastic humor seamlessly blended in keep it from being depressing. Mmm...and I can't forget the sizzling sexual tension that kept both Riker and Nicole on their toes, and the way they steamed up the pages when at last they could no longer resist each other. These guys quickly moved to my "favorite couples" list. That and the fact that one of my favorite tropes (I can't say which it is, as it would be a spoiler!) was used made this one of my favorite books that I've read in a long time.

All of the characters are very complex and well fleshed out. I was captivated not only by Riker and Nicole, but many of the side characters also intrigued me as I wondered who else was going to have the chance of finding their HEA. The MoonBound clan leader, Hunter; the sexy loner, Myne; bad-ass vampire Katina, and that's just the tip of the interesting characters.

I can't wait to delve back into this new world of the MoonBound Clan Vampires, but I'm not disappointed that as I wait I will get to (finally!!!) read Reaver and Harvester's story in December. I've been waiting a while for their story. :) I'm glad that Larissa will be going back into the Demonica and Lords of Deliverance universes, as I'm not ready to give them up.

BOUND BY NIGHT is a solid 5 Rambling Heart read!
