Review of DIRTY TALK a Mechanics of Love Novel by Megan Erickson

Brent Payton is the clown of the family, but the lovable jokester has a serious side that he seldom shows. Ivy Dawn recently moved to Tory, MD with her daughter, Violet, and sister, Alex wishing to make a new life for themselves. They are drawn to each other, but neither of them are ready to step into a relationship
.
This is the first book I've read by Megan Erickson, and it didn't disappoint. Brent was absolutely lovable and Ivy was a pure sweetheart. The sexual tension between them sparked into flames as they explored their attraction. I loved watching their relationship grew as Ivy need to learn to trust and Brent needed to reach for his dreams.

I really liked Brent's brothers—I'm going to have to back up and read their stories—and his neighbor, Davis, was fantastic. I want Davis to find an HEA!!!! Brent's dad, Jack, was a big, gruff, softy that looked out for his family. Violet was a sweetie and Alex has some emotional healing to do, which I felt that she was on the road to succeeding. I will definitely be picking up her story.

Blurb:

The second in the Mechanics of Love series: When the one you shouldn’t want is the one you can’t resist…
Brent Payton works hard, plays hard, and has earned his ladies’ man reputation. But he’s more than just a good time, even though no one seems to see it. Until a gorgeous brunette with knockout curves and big, thoughtful eyes walks into his family’s garage and makes Brent want more.

Ivy Dawn and her sister are done with men, all of them. They’ve uprooted their lives too many times on account of the opposite sex, but that’s over now. The plan seems easy until a sexy, dirty-taking mechanic bursts in Ivy’s life and shakes everything up.

Brent can’t resist the one person who sees past his devil-may-care façade, and Ivy finds it harder and harder to deny how happy he makes her. But she has secrets of her own and when the truth comes out, she must decide if she’ll run again or if she’ll take a chance on forever.

 Fighting Back by Scarlett Finn
Excerpt

‘When is she coming?’ Ivy asked when Saul hung up the phone.
‘She’ll be here in an hour,’ he said, his triumphant smile brought him to his feet. ‘Where’s the mini-bar?’
‘You’re not getting drunk in here,’ she said.
‘Come on, it’s on your old man’s dime, right?’
‘You can leave,’ she said. ‘You’ve done your bit.’
‘Oh,’ he whined. ‘You’re not going to let me stay and watch the show?’
‘No, I’m not. I’m not hanging out in a hotel room with you to wait for a hooker.’
‘We’re not using the hooker, we’re luring the hooker.’
‘I am luring her, I could’ve done this without you. I told you that you didn’t need to come back, you offered to come and make the call from the hotel room because it was more convincing. Trudi probably heard that I was looking for her, and I’d guess she’s not desperate to see me.’
‘No,’ he said, standing up from the bed where he’d been sitting to make the call. ‘Probably not. Were all the stories true? That you were kidnapped and—‘
‘We can talk about that tomorrow,’ she said. Grabbing his arm, Ivy pulled him towards the hotel room door. ‘You need to get out of here because if Trudi sees you then she’ll assume I’m not too far behind.’
‘Just like the old days,’ he grinned.
With her palms planted on his back she pushed him forward and reached around him to open the hotel room door. ‘Get out of here, Saul.’ Except when she opened the door, there was a man right there on the other side of it. A man with an expression on his face that the devil would envy. ‘Dax…’
Still half tucked behind Saul, she came around him to stand between the two men, except Dax swept her aside and grabbed Saul to haul him out and pin him to the hotel corridor wall. ‘Who the fuck do you think you are?’ Dax demanded.
‘No, no,’ Ivy said, trying to pry Dax away. ‘You can’t do this here, Dax, come on, baby, let him go.’
‘I do know you,’ Saul said, his face reddened as recognition grasped him. ‘Oh shit.’
‘That’s right, buddy,’ Dax said, pleased that he’d been identified. She didn’t know how the men knew each other, and right now, she didn’t care.

Cover Reveal: TO LOVE JASON by Ella Maise

Title: To Love Jason Thorn

Author: Ella Maise

Release Date: TBA

Find on Goodreads

Jason Thorn… My brother’s childhood friend.

Oh, how stupidly in love with that boy I was. He was the first boy that made me blush, my first official crush. Sounds beautiful so far, right? That excitement that bubbles up inside you, those famous butterflies you feel for the very first time—he was the reason for them all. But, you only get to live in that fairytale world until they crush your hopes and dreams and then stomp on your heart for good measure. And boy did he crush my little heart into pieces.

After the stomping part he became the boy I did my best to stay away from—and let me tell you, it was pretty hard to do when he slept in the room right across from mine.

When tragedy struck his family and they moved away, I was ready to forget he ever existed.

Now he is a movie star, the one who makes women of all ages go into a screaming frenzy, the one who makes everyone swoon with that dimpled smile of his. Do you think that’s dreamy? I certainly don’t think so. How about me coming face to face with him? Nope still not dreamy. Not when I can’t even manage to look him in the eye.

Me? I’m Olive, a new writer. Actually, I’m THE writer of the book that inspired the movie he is about to star in on the big screen. As of late, I am also referred to as the oh-so-very-lucky girl who is about to become the wife of Jason Thorn.

Maybe you’re thinking yet again that this is all so dreamy? Nope, nothing dreamy going on here. Not even close.

I'm an avid reader. Therefore, a big dreamer. I love nothing more than to escape real life to find those very few magical moments in a book. I love how it has the power of stealing your worries away, putting a smile on your face, and of course sometimes making you crush on fictional characters. If I can manage to do even one of those things for a reader, I will be a happy writer.

I can't even begin to describe how exciting it is to give life to new characters and fall for them. It's a different kind of addiction I'm determined to keep alive.

I'm still searching for my own happy ending. Until that happens, I'll live vicariously through my own characters.

Amazon ** iBooks ** GooglePlay

Welcome to Storm, Texas, where passion runs hot, desire runs deep,

and secrets have the power to destroy...

Nestled among rolling hills and painted with vibrant wildflowers, the bucolic town of Storm, Texas, seems like nothing short of perfection.

But there are secrets beneath the facade. Dark secrets.  Powerful secrets. The kind that can destroy lives and tear families apart.  The kind that can cut through a town like a tempest, leaving jealousy and destruction in its wake, along with shattered hopes and broken dreams. All it takes is one little thing to shatter that polish.

Reading like an on-going drama in the tradition of classic day and night-time soap operas like Dallas, Dynasty, and All My Children, Rising Storm is full of scandal, deceit, romance, passion, and secrets.

With 1001 Dark Nights as the “producer,” Julie Kenner and Dee Davis use a television model with each week building on the last to create a storyline that fulfills the promise of a drama-filled soap opera. Joining Kenner and Davis in the “writer’s room” is an incredible group of New York Times bestselling authors such as Lexi Blake, Elisabeth Naughton, Jennifer Probst, Larissa Ione, Rebecca Zanetti and Lisa Mondello who have brought their vision of Storm to life.

A serial soap opera containing eight episodes in season one, the season premiere of Rising Storm, TEMPEST RISING, debuts September 24th with each subsequent episode releasing consecutively this fall.

So get ready.  The storm is coming.

My mini Review:

TEMPEST RISING introduces us to the inhabitants of Storm, TX, and draws us into a new cast of characters lives. This is the first book in the RISING STORM series, each "episode" being written by some of my favorite authors. It's an over-the-top drama set like a soap opera that does not disappoint as it leads us into many directions as we meet the residents of Storm. Ms. Kenner did a fantastic job hooking me, as I canNOT wait for the next installment to see what direction the characters are going to go!  This is really hard to write spoiler-free...but I will. I'm eager to see how things turn out for Ginny. So many things were affected by her and Jacob's accident and I can't wait to see what other twists and turns will be in store for us as this continues.

Reviews for TEMPEST RISING:

“After reading Tempest Rising by Julie Kenner I can honestly say it is everything I loved about those shows from the 80's and more; heart-stopping, twisted, engrossing, captivating, epic all describe this very first episode of Rising Storm.  Even better I FELT like I was watching a television mini-series while reading it.  Each time the "scene" changed, I held my breath wondering who was up next.”-Slick Reads, Guilty Pleasures Blog

COMPLICATE ME: the Good Ol' Boys by M. Robinson

BLOG TOUR
Title: Complicate Me (The Good Ol’ Boys)
Author: Best Selling Author M. ROBINSON
Genre: Contemporary Romance
Release Day: September 14th
Cover Design: Rebecca Marie at The Final Wrap
It was complicated, it was
also just the beginning.
A decision.
A simple choice.
There is always that one
moment in life where things could have been different. That one moment where
you could have chosen a path that would lead you down a certain road.
A different life.
It was easier to pretend that
we were still best friends, and that she was my girl and I was her boy.
Pretending was better than
knowing the truth...
I. Ruined. Us.
I had her.
I lost her.
I love her.
All I did was complicate us.

(Nook Coming Soon)
My brown eyed girl sat on our blankets with her arms wrapped around her knees, hiding her face. The tiny frame that I adored so much shook uncontrollably, only heightening the deepest sobbing that escalated with each passing second. It was such an intimate moment, not to be shared with anyone, especially me. Alex didn’t cry. I watched her bawl for the first time in my life. I had never seen anyone cry like that before, and it shook me to my core, slicing me whole, and making me feel like I was dying. Carving a memory that I would take to my grave.
There was no going back…
No erasing.
No do overs.
No deleting.
What I witnessed tonight would be my purgatory; I would now close my eyes and forever see her falling apart in front of me. Shattering before my very own eyes and I found it hard to breathe.
Hard to move.
My feet were glued to the goddamn floor as she continued to weep, sob, bawl, violently sucking in air that wasn’t available. I accepted it all; each tear that fell from her face becoming pieces of me. Circulating through my veins and blood, it flowed endlessly, a river of her sadness and sorrow and of my broken promises. No beginning or ending to her cries, just an infinite current, flooding the hole
where my heart should be. The shadow of her trembling petite body reflected off
the walls, leaving a trail of regrets in its wake.
Mine.
Hers.
Ours.
Growing up in a small town you overheard a lot of things. People talking, stories told, town gossip. You listened a lot. You learned a lot. Tourists, townies, friends, and especially family all shared wisdom and advice that you think you will never need.
Bunch of bullshit.
They say you have that one moment in life where things could have been different, that one moment that changes the course of your life or the direction you could have taken. That one moment that could forever change you and everything you wanted to be true,
everything you wanted to believe.
One simple decision could
alter your entire future.
My entire world.
I would forever remember this moment for the rest of my life. This is the moment that changed everything. This is the moment where I took another direction, another road that led me to my own demise. My own regrets.  I should have walked in there. I should have apologized. I should have begged for her forgiveness. I should have promised that I would never hurt her again. I should have done whatever it took to make her look at me the way she had our entire lives.
But I didn’t…
I did none of those things…
Not one.
Nothing was said between us.
No words.
No actions.
I was a coward and couldn’t do it. I couldn’t see her like that. I couldn’t look into her eyes and know that I had hurt her. That I had disappointed her. That I ruined her love and lost her respect for me.
The boy who promised he would never hurt her.
The boy who swore he would always protect her.
The boy who vowed he would never let anything happen to her.
That same boy was me.
I was the reason she was bawling.
I was the reason she was hurt.
I was the reason she was broken.
She knew the truth. It had finally caught up to me… I shattered her illusion that I was hers. I ruined the one good thing I had in my life. The girl that owned my heart was bleeding out for me in a way that I had never seen before. The house was no longer our safe place.
I had brought my hurricane with me…
I couldn’t risk the possibility of losing her permanently if I walked in there and admitted my truths. She wouldn’t love me anymore, she wouldn’t look at me the same anymore, and she wouldn’t be mine anymore.
My brown eyed girl.
The girl that I had loved all of my life.
The same girl that I would
love for the rest of my life.
Alexandra.
I gave her the only comfort I could in her moment of despair. I turned around and left. I walked down the stairs and got into my truck. I turned the engine on and drove my sorry ass home. I took a shower and never once looked at myself in the mirror. I pretended that nothing changed. That I didn’t cause her pain, and that she didn’t know the truth. That I didn’t see her sobbing and that she wasn’t even bawling to begin with. That we were still just best friends, and that she was
my girl and I was her boy.
My Half-Pint and her Bo.
It was better than knowing…
I ruined us.
