KissCon: an Avon affair

Avon Romance Presents: KissCon San Rafael
Avon will be hosting a series of fan fests, called “KissCon,” starting with two consecutive events in San Rafael, CA on 11/22, and Seattle, on 11/23.

What does KissCon entail? A group of *amazing* Avon authors will be doing a signing, a Q&A, and fun, interactive events with the audience. There will be prizes, raffles, and so much more in the way of romance goodness! Authors attending each event will vary slightly (full list below), but they will include Ilona Andrews, Sarah MacLean, Lori Wilde, Cathy Maxwell, Elizabeth Boyle, Laura Kaye, and many more!

Promotion... How Much is Too Much?

I see this topic come up every once in a while, and again just recently.

I find it ironic how the people that gripe about the OVER promotion of some books, are the same people pimping their own share of books.  I understand, because sometimes I get sick of seeing certain titles/authors raved about, but I don't bitch about it because I do my share of book/author pimping.

I see the main focus on new authors, and wonder, what are they supposed to do?  They are obviously getting the word out and people talking about their debut. But does this ever backfire on them?

hmmm...I don't know the answer.  I just felt annoyed by all the "I would NEVER buy "that" book because it's over promoted."  blah blah blah, by the same people that are telling me "You've GOT to read "this" book, it's the best thing ever!"

My July 2008 reads

1.DIE FOR ME-Karen Rose~Suspense -Rating A+
2. SCREAM FOR ME – Karen Rose~Suspense -Rating A+
3. DELICIOUS – Sherry Thomas ~Victorian -Rating B-

~I really liked her writing style, but found the story only mediocre-the last ½ of the book was great.
4. THE LOST DUKE OF WYNDHAM – Julia Quinn~ Regency-Rating A
5. SECRETS OF THE KNIGHT – Julie Latham~Medieval -Rating C

~I had trouble connecting with the characters.
6. TEMPTED BY THE NIGHT(Marlowe #2)– Elizabeth Boyle~Victorian/Paranormal -Rating A+
7. MINE TIL MIDNIGHT (Hathaway #1)– Lisa Kleypas~Victorian -Rating A+

~Love Love Love Cam....
8. SEDUCE ME AT SUNRISE (Hathaway #2)– Lisa Kleypas~Victorian -Rating A+

~Kev (Merripen) & Win's story...this book really focused on the whole Hathaway clan, esp. Cam, with the romance between Kev & Win taking place almost in the background (they are both quieter/privater people, while everyone else are all so boisterous and overpowering), but because I love the whole family, it didn't bother me a bit and was an excellent read
