Guest Post and Contest with author Donna Grant : New Years Resolutions

Bestselling author Donna Grant writes historical paranormal romances for St. Martin’s Press. She lives in Texas with her husband and two kids.

Towards the end of one year I always look to the next and think of things that I’d like to do. Some call them resolutions. I try not to since that usually means they don’t last more than a month.

So, I make goals. Sometimes its as simple as excising three times a week. I always slack off during the holidays, so I make this one of my top goals.

I also try to be realistic in my goal setting. I’d love to add getting to see more readers via conferences or book signings, but I know what my schedule is next year, and I’m barely going to have time for a family vacation. So, I know that one is pretty low on the list and will probably hold off until the next year.

Since I know I won’t be getting to readers in person as much as I want, I’ll make other ways to reach them. One is my Virtual Signings. This is when a reader buys the book and pays for postage from my website, the books are ordered, sent to me, and I sign them and get them sent out to the reader on release day.

I did my first Virtual Signing last year and it was a great success, and something I plan on continuing as long as readers want it.

Another of my goals for next year is taking more time for me. I always forget to schedule that into my time. lol. My hubby and kiddos often remind me of it, so I’m going to make it a priority for next year.

So, tell me what is/are your resolutions (goals) for the coming new year?

**I’ll be giving away an ebook copy of ECHOES OF MAGIC, the second in the Sisters of Magic trilogy to one lucky commenter!**

Dangerous Magic

Never tempt magic…
With the darkness holding firmly onto his soul, Cade knows he’s destined for Hell. Men like him don’t perform the deeds he has, regardless if they came by order of the king, and not elude the darkness…
A loner, Cade takes what the land provides and vows to keep the two men he thought of as brothers alive from the great evil after them. He knows his time is short and the evil is looking for him, but there is just enough humanity left in him to aid his friends. When the flame-haired witch finds him, Cade is instantly spellbound by her beauty. He can either forget her – or give in to the reckless, impossible love that could destroy her…

  1. I've given up on lists except for TBR lists. Those go on forever! I do set goals and try to make them. It at least keeps me focused. Do you have a goal for how many books to write a year?

  2. My only resolution so far is to work out-I hurt my ankle somehow and actually have doctor's orders not to for now but I'm hoping that will change soon! lol :) I also would like to read more and focus more on my author assistant duties. I really want to help my authors this year any way that I can.

  3. I have basically one main goal for this coming year--to declutter, at least to the point where we can park in the garage ;) I'd probably better go get working on that now, as a matter of fact ;p

Thanks for the visit and post, Donna!

  4. My new years resolution is to try to be more patient with all the short term gym goers reaching for their resolutions. I admit to being a bit irritable about it because its so packed for 6 or 7 weeks. But I should be more supportive

  5. hmmm...if I'm going to set up any goals for the year, it's to get my reviews written and posted in a more timely fashion! eek, I've let myself fall so far behind this year, that I'm now playing catch up!

  6. Hey guys! Wonderful post. I already have this book so don't enter me into the contest. I just thought that I would stop by and say "HI"

My new years resolution is getting into better shape. I have always been an active person and the past year I have been doing nothing. Need to get back on the band wagon.

  7. My resolution is to eat healthier and exercise. I want to lose weight the right way so it stays off. I also want to spend less on things I don't need.

    Great post Donna!

  8. Renee - lol. So true on the TBR list. As for how many books to write a year, that depends on my contracts. :D For 2011 I wrote, 4 books and 2 novellas.

Kitty Kelly - oh, good luck with the hurt ankle. Hope it heals soon.

Frank - lmao! Yeah, you might want to hit that garage soon.;)

Lisa - I can understand being irritated when you're used to something at the gym, and then it gets so crowded. But you know it won't last long. :D It's why I work out at home.

Aemelia - lol. It's easy to fall behind, isn't it? Good luck getting it all done.

    Leagh - hey! Thanks!

    Wendy - Thanks!

  14. My goal is to try to get more exercise. My doctor says I need to exercise more to keep my cholesterol down so I'm gonna try. At least I'm saying that now. LOL!

  15. I never make resolutions as I always fail to keep them. As for lists, I have trouble following a grocery list...LOL, so I don't make those either. What I do need to do is to start exercising more so I'm going to give it my best try.

  16. I am hoping to read more and lose another 10 to 15 lbs. I lost 32 so far this year and and am feeling good about that but want to maintain and tone everything. Ten more pounds and i'll be back to the weight i was when i was in the army 20 years ago. lol That's the big goal. That and a bikini this coming summer. Get myself organized for once too would be wonderful!

  21. Okay so every year I say "hey I think this year i will do _____" It never happens so this year i have decided that instead of setting a huger resolution that will never get done I am going with something simple..
I have decided that this new year will be the year in which I do the disehes every night..Sounds ridiculous right? But I have always put off loading the dishwasher and all that to the next day and then i get home from work and feel like I have twice as much to do! So no more putting off the dishes for me :)

  23. My goal is to take more time for my writing-I always seem to find an excuse to put it off, and my unfinished manuscript taunts me.
I need to learn how to balance my writing time with real life time.
